Love Gym Upgrades
State-of-the-art training tools and renovated team spaces offer Big Red student-athletes more opportunities to prepare, connect and excel
Golf
Two new Trackman golf simulators are giving studentathletes a closer look at their swings. The system breaks down club speed, launch angle, spin rate, distance and shot shape, relaying feedback that helps players understand — and adjust — what they’re doing in real time. In addition to individual practice, the system also offers course simulations from around the world along with skill-based competitions that can be used for team practices.
Locker Rooms
Recent updates to the basketball facilities have put a spotlight on the role that environment plays in building team culture. Both the boys and girls varsity programs introduced custom-built lockers this season, a change that has reshaped the look and feel of their locker rooms. More than just a place to store equipment, coaches describe the new locker rooms as an extension of their classroom, where they can teach the game and teammates can build bonds that extend far beyond the court.
Hockey
The RapidShot system automatically collects pucks and passes them back at different speeds and intervals. It allows students to practice shooting in motion, handling passes and quickly releasing pucks off their sticks. Highspeed cameras track shot speed, accuracy, release time and shot placement, giving players a clear picture of their progress over time.
Courses of Instruction
In mid-April, Exeter students received a muchanticipated spring staple: the 92-page Courses of Instruction catalog for the upcoming academic year. What followed was weeks of buzzy conversations as students sorted through more than 450 courses on offer and mapped the academic adventures they hope to take next year. Here’s part of the reading list from just one of the many classes competing for their attention:

Ursula K. Le Guin

“On Fairy-Stories”

MLK Day
Exeter students, faculty and staff commemorated the life and legacy of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. with a full slate of speakers, workshops and discussion. The day’s keynote speaker, Oliver Rosales, a professor of history and ethnic studies at Bakersfield College, spoke about the intersection of Dr. King’s work with the farmworker movement. “The most important history isn’t always made in the halls of power,” he said, “but in the coalitions that we create when we imagine a different kind of strength.” He also challenged students in the audience to consider their own paths forward. “How will you show up?” he asked. “Will you define your success by the prestige of the rooms that you enter or by the coalitions that you create?”
Quoted
“MLK Day is important to me because MLK had a dream and that’s a dream that I believe in as well and I want to create for the future.”
