Allergy Alert

Thirty-two million Americans have food allergies. Sami Koltur ’27 is one of them. “A few years ago, a reaction turned dangerous enough that it took multiple doses of epinephrine to bring under control, and that's why I built this,” she says, referring to Allergense, a smart spoon that detects food allergens in real time. Koltur designed the electrochemical sensor, filed and received approval on a provisional patent, and hopes to one day bring it to mass market.
